Mount Meru Description.

Mount Meru is an active composite volcano located 70 kilometers (43 m) west of Mount Kilimanjaro in the nation of Tanzania. Mount Meru is located just north of the city of Arusha, in the Arusha Region of Tanzania. It is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania, after Mount Kilimanjaro and is the fifth-highest mountain in Africa dependent on definition. The Momella route – which starts at Momella gate, on the eastern side of the mountain – is used to climb Mount Meru. At a height of 4,565 meters (14,977 ft), it is visible from Mt Kilimanjaro on a clear day.

ITINERARY.

DAY 0:Arrival Tanzania- At JRO airport.

Welcome to Tanzania.On arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport you’ll meet your company arranged driver who will transfer you to Arusha city to Mount Meru Hotel for dinner and overnight. Our driver will display your name on an Mupana Tours signboard. These procedures ensure that you are picked up by the correct driver, rather than by some of the airport taxi drivers who are looking for business. You’ll get a chance for Safari briefing/introduction before your dinner.

DAY 01: Momela Gate to Miriakamba Hut.

Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
Habitat: Montane Forest.

After breakfast at 08:00 drives from Arusha to Momela gate Mount Meru is inside Arusha National Park which will allow you to see animals like buffalo, white colobus monkey, giraffe, Baboons, Warthogs and a number of Bird life. picnic lunch with you , you will start the ascend to the first hut Miriakamba Hut, you’ll take a walk for 4-5 hours through the dense rain forest until to Miriakamba Hut.

DAY 02: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut.

Dinner and overnight night at Saddle Hut

Hiking Time: 3-5 hours
Habitat: Forest and Moorland.

After breakfast start to walk from Miriakamba-Hut to the saddle below Little Meru is a short day but a steep climb. The walk will take us slowly along the ridge for a spectacular view of the Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone. After hot lunch at Saddle Hut we can make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820m) for superb views just before sunset.

DAY 03: Hike Saddle hut to the Summit – down to Saddle hut.

Elevation (ft): 14,977ft to 11,712 ft to 8,250ft
Distance: 5 km up 13 km down
Hiking Time: 10 – 12 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert Moorland and Montane forest.

We start early at around 1:30 a.m. to climb steeply to Rhino Point (3,800 m.) and on to Cobra Point (4350m). We reach the summit (4,566 m) on time for sunrise there is a possibility to see Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds. The final part of the climb is along a spectacular narrow ridgeline between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater. We take a short rest and brunch at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to the Meriakamba Hut.

DAY 04: Mariakamba hut to Momela Gate to Arusha.

After breakfast you take a short and fast descent way through open grassland and mixed forest, with a possibility of seeing wildlife before reaching Momella Gate in the late morning. The returning transfer will be waiting at Momella Gate to pick you to your hotel in Arusha.
