Chimpanzees – the main attraction
The chimpanzee one of the most star attraction of Gombe Stream National Park. Trek through the forest with trained guides and rangers to find habituated chimpanzee communities.
Gombe became world famous when Jane Goodall began her chimpanzee research there in 1960. Her work helped transform scientific understanding of chimpanzee behavior, including their social relationships, feeding behavior and use of tools.

THE BEST TIME TO VISIT GOMBE STREAM NATIONAL PARK
The park can be visited throughout the year, but the best time depends on what you want to experience. For travelers whose priority is wildlife viewing and large elephant herds, the dry season from June to October is generally the most rewarding period.

Chimpanzees are the main attraction of Gombe Stream National Park and the primary reason many travelers visit this remote forest wilderness. Gombe is internationally renowned for its wild chimpanzee communities and for the groundbreaking research of Jane Goodall, which began here in 1960.

FLIGHT TIME TO GOMBE STREAM NATIONAL PARK
Gombe located western Tanzania, so traveling from Arusha requires reaching Kigoma first, followed by a boat transfer across Lake Tanganyika. There is no road access directly into Gombe Stream National Park.
By air – The best recommended option
Arusha → Kigoma Airport → Gombe
- Flight: Chatter flights can connect Arusha with Kigoma: 2 hours.
- Kigoma → Gombe: approximately 16 km across Lake Tanganyika.
- Private motorboat: 1 hour
